Yes, photographing brown VG's can be challenging. Here's a few tips to improve your results.
1) After posing your VG, take a moment to brush the nap of the fabric all in the same direction.
2) Avoid using a flash. Harsh lighting really makes color variations standout.
3) VG, s in general tend to photograph better when shot from slightly above, rather than shooting from below.
